The newly rumored couple, NFL star Travis Kelce and international pop superstar Taylor Swift have dominated pop culture headlines over the last few weeks. Stories about the two seem to be all over social and news media. Coverage started to peak after Taylor Swift was seen at a Kansas City Chiefs game. Cameras capturing the game made sure to catch Taylor Swift cheering on Kelce. But now, the Kelce family is speaking out about the league's full embrace of the duo. In an article published by the Associated Press, Travis Kelce was quoted stating that the NFL was "overdoing" the coverage. He also discussed the topic on his podcast with his brother, Philadelphia Eagles player Jason Kelce, where Jason said that cameras capturing the game got live shots of Swift at least 17 times. The brothers' mom, Donna Kelce, has also spoken to the press about the league's coverage of Swift. Fox News Corp. quoted her saying, "The NFL is laughing all the way to the bank". The same article reveals that sales of Kansas City Cheifs jerseys have increased by about 400%. Personally, I think that the NFL should be embracing the new duo, but I understand why Travis is seemingly embarrassed by the new spotlight. Both Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift had fame before they were spotted together but Taylor Swift was much more well known to the general public. However, since they were spotted together there has been an apparent increase of coverage of both celebrities. This is a good opportunity for the NFL to bring in a new fanbase that might not have been interested in football before. Taylor Swift is well known for having a very large, very dedicated fan base. So by the NFL capturing her cheering at games, they are enticing her fans to turn on the game, whereas before they might not have had any interest in football.
